Managing and reporting medication is a huge responsibility for domiciliary care workers. Getting it right is critical for client safety, safeguarding and compliance.
We want to make medication reporting in homecare as smooth and safe as possible, so we’ve made some big improvements to how medications are reported by care workers within the Nursebuddy carer app. It’s set to reduce the number of missed medication reports, and make medication administration simpler and safer than ever.
What’s changed? ✅
The Nursebuddy app now requires carers to report all scheduled medications during their visit time as either 'Given' or 'Not Given.' The app won't let a carer check out until this is done, ensuring no dose gets left behind.
Previously, carers could confirm they had completed all required medications without fully reporting the dose, which could accidentally generate missed medications in a client’s eMAR.
Now, with every individual medication requiring a clear response, MAR charts in Nursebuddy will be more accurate, meaning:
-
Improved safety for the people you support
-
Smoother auditing and compliance checks for you, the care manager
Good to know 💡
Here are a few more ways Nursebuddy helps make medication administration and reporting simpler and safer:
Focused view - by default, care workers only see the medications relevant to their visit time. They can expand the view if they need to, but the current visit remains highlighted with a clear orange bubble. This helps make sure the right medications are given at the right time.
Clear instructions - the medication summary screen has clear and detailed instructions on what medication to give and how to give it. This information is always in line with clinical safety standards for domiciliary care.
Detailed recording - if a medication is 'Not Given', care workers can quickly pick a reason from a standard list (which you can set for your organisation). They can also choose to record the medication 'Now' or select the exact time and date.
Fully editable - care workers can edit their own medication reports while in the visit. If they spot an error in their recording, they can quickly put it right.
Thank you to our amazing customers 🙏
A big thank you goes to Primary Homecare (our customer of the month from October) who have been vital in re-designing this in-app medication workflow. Their valuable, expert input has helped to make medication administration much clearer for care workers. We expect this improvement will lead to a significant reduction in missed medications reported in a client's eMAR, for all our amazing customers!
