Newlands Care Angus
Transitioning from pen-and-paper, Newlands Care Angus have been on an inspiring journey, thanks to their system champion, Alicja, whose dedication and enthusiasm has truly made a difference in their successful adoption of Nursebuddy. Their expertise and feedback has also been instrumental in validating some of our recent developments, such as new user roles and risk assessment templates.
What are the biggest factors that have helped your business grow to be such a success?
"Teamwork is the key to our success, if not for devoted carers we would not be able to help so many families. We have been in the industry for 8 years but we are still learning every day, especially from our own mistakes. At the end of the day, we are all carers, so we remind ourselves that ultimately we are here to provide care for those who need it.
"That is our mission and we take it on gladly with all the challenges that come along."
With staffing an industry-wide challenge, what strategies do you use to retain carers?
"We are always brainstorming new ideas to help retain employees, we understand that people’s needs change. We have always tried to build a community and develop a name that is trusted among those working in care in our area. We are always trying to be fair and understanding and know that carers are the most valuable asset."
What's one piece of advice you would give to someone starting a homecare business?
"Our advice would be to focus on building strong relationships with both your service users and carers from the start. Trust and honesty are key in care - people need to feel safe and cared for, and carers need to feel appreciated and supported. If you create a culture of openness, kindness, and quality care, you'll keep service users happy and build a loyal, motivated team. This is the foundation for long-term success."
How has changing to Nursebuddy helped your home care business?
"Before Nursebuddy, we were not able to see the data of all our service users at once and if everything was on time or something happened during the visit, so we were based on groups on Messenger and phone calls. Now everything is kept together, any issues can be dealt much quicker as we can see what happened from the visit report. We can plan and redo the schedules to see if for example, one service user’s visit is delayed or starts too soon.
"Carers definitely enjoy using the app too."
What is the one Nursebuddy feature that you really can’t live without?
"I think it would be the live-action schedule page that allows to see the visit details and also allows us to cancel visits in just a moment. Before Nursebuddy, we could only get a text or a call about it, and sometimes the carer didn’t see the message, and wasted time on the travel."
